Biography
Prof. Subuola Fasoyiro was born in Lagos state, Nigeria. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Technology from Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in 1994 and her M.Sc and Ph.D in Food Technology from University of Ibadan in 1997 and 2004 respectively. She is a Professor of Food Science and Technology at the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) under Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ibadan, Nigeria. Over a career spanning nearly three decades, her work has focused significantly on post-harvest food processing, upgrading the nutritional value of local crops, and enhancing food security in Nigeria. She has served as Head of Product Development Programme at IAR&T (2012-2016) and as Head of Life Science Centre, IAR&T (2019-2021). She is a Fellow of African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) in 2010 and a mentor. She has trainings home and abroad in on food agribusiness, food safety, research and development in post-harvest practices and gender issues in the agricultural value chain. She also has teaching experience with OAU, and BOWEN University, Iwo, Nigeria.
Aside her academic experience, she is a researcher that brings food research solutions into practical experience to the populace. She has being involved in training of trainer of trainers, farmers, women groups, local vendors and mentoring students, youths and early career researchers. She is the current Vice Chair of Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology Western Chapter (NIFST) which aims towards food security in the country. She is also a member of Organization of Women in Developing Countries (OWSD) from 2013 encoraging grils in science. She is also a Fellow of Borlaug Women -in- Science (2007), Schlumberger Faculty of the Future (2015), Fellow of Centre of Productivity and Development ( FCP). As an advocate, she advocates to encourage used of underutilized legumes especially pigeon pea to enhance household food and nutrition security, reduce hunger and malnutrition and for healthy eating, use of processing skills in entrepreneurship for self reliance among the underprivileged and she also encourage mentoring of youths for sustainable development. She is also a minister at Christ Life Church involved in foundational class teaching and marriage counselling.
Prof Subuola Fasoyiro is the Co-founder and Vice Chairperson of Grace Reachfill Development Foundation (GRDF). She currently serves as Program Director and mentor in the GRDF Programs. She serves as Host of Well 'n Virtue Advisory encouraging holistic development and writings.
